New Zealand funds regional emergency-radio resilience
A NZ$300,000 government grant will support backup power and related infrastructure at ten independent regional radio stations.
The Independent Media Association will coordinate delivery with participating broadcasters. A further NZ$20,000 in co-funding will support the work.
What changed
The Regional Emergency Broadcasting programme aims to keep local information available during power and telecommunications disruption.
Who this is for
Communities served by the ten participating regional stations, from Coromandel to Central Otago.
Dates & context
This is an infrastructure-funding announcement, not confirmation that generators are installed or a warning of imminent disruption. It complements Radio New Zealand’s nationwide emergency-radio network.
