Malaysia plans to increase frozen-fish reserves ahead of seasonal supply pressure

RTM reports the agriculture minister’s plan to expand national frozen-fish reserves; the increase amount and completion date are unstated.

Government broadcaster RTM reports Mohamad Sabu’s statement during the Dewan Rakyat budget debate. He cited 10,000 metric tonnes of accumulated frozen-fish stocks as of 30 September 2026.

What changed

An institutional food-supply measure, not advice for households to stockpile fish.

Who this is for

Fisheries supply organisations, fishing communities and consumers relying on stable protein supplies.

Dates & context

The minister linked the measure to anticipated El Niño and northeast-monsoon effects. The existing September inventory is not the quantity newly purchased, and the report provides no household storage target.
