EU and Canada agree to explore critical-resource stockpiling

Canada and the EU agreed to explore supply-security mechanisms, including critical-resource stockpiling for civilian and defence industries.

Paragraph 30 of the summit statement sets out the proposed exploration of strategic-resource supply security. The statement also plans closer cooperation on health emergencies and wildfire preparedness.

What changed

The joint statement identifies stockpiling as an option for future supply-security cooperation, not an established shared reserve.

Who this is for

European and Canadian public authorities and strategic-resource supply chains.

Dates & context

This is a commitment to explore mechanisms, not evidence that shared reserves have been established, purchased or filled. It does not change household supply advice. The date is the 30 October statement date; the summit took place on 29–30 October.
