Norway’s preparedness week turns to life without mobile networks

The government opened its annual preparedness week with a focus on disrupted power, mobile networks and internet access. It is encouraging residents to know their local information point, arrange mutual support and review household supplies.

The ministry says only three in ten residents know where to obtain municipal information during a crisis. This year’s campaign therefore focuses on communication arrangements as well as household supplies.

What changed

A current campaign, not a new one-week stockholding rule. Norway’s one-week recommendation dates to May 2024.

Who this is for

Norwegian residents and the municipalities, emergency services and voluntary organisations helping them prepare.

What the official guidance says

  • Ask your municipality where its physical information point is.
  • Agree with friends or neighbours where to meet and how to help each other if digital contact fails.
  • Review supplies gradually and plan how to stay warm during a power cut.

Dates & context

The announcement opens an annual campaign. It does not establish that an outage is imminent.
