Chile completes first Calbuco volcano evacuation drill
SENAPRED reports that residents of Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas practised evacuation during the first Calbuco eruption drill.
The exercise began at 11:00 and involved about 1,400 people. It was the eighth Chile Preparado exercise in Los Lagos, not the eighth nationwide. Findings are intended to identify gaps and improve local emergency plans.
What changed
A completed regional preparedness exercise, not a real eruption or a new stockholding requirement.
Who this is for
Residents and emergency organisations in the participating areas.
What the official guidance says
- Review official evacuation routes and family plans.
Dates & context
Chile Preparado has operated since 2011. The announcement reiterates basic supplies for at least 72 hours; it does not announce a change to that advice.
